Making things to understand them
A small note about learning by making things instead of only reading about them.
14 July 2026
I’ve always found that I understand something better once I’ve tried to make a small version of it.
That is usually how I end up in unfamiliar areas: I read a little, make something slightly impractical, then spend a while figuring out why it behaves the way it does. It is not the fastest way to learn, but it tends to stay with me.
Lately, that has meant moving between backend work, web development, and a few lower-level experiments in C++. Elsewhere, I’ve been keeping up with motorsport, playing the occasional racing game, and watching more science fiction than is probably necessary.
This journal is a place for those small observations. Nothing too regular, and no grand conclusions—just notes when I have something worth writing down.
